Tha Phra

 

The Tha Phra neighborhood, centered around Ratchadapisek Road from Mahai Sawan Junction to Tha Phra Junction and bisected by Ratchaphruek Road and BTS (Skytrain), is an established Chinese-Thai community. Currently served by BTS Talat Phlu, Pho Nimit and Wutthakat Stations, the MRT Blue Line will be extended from Hua Lamphong to Tha Phra Station and beyond, as well as north to Tao Poon.

New condominiums average THB 90,000–130,000 per square meter. Recent projects include:

  • The Privacy Thaphra Interchange, starting at THB 2.39 million

Tha Phra is somewhat removed from the city center, so there are fewer hotels. Among them are Hip Bangkok, K.C. Guest House, The Bazaar Hotel, Lantana Resort Hotel, Beerapan Hotel, Zenniq and Bed by BST.

The neighborhood's largest shopping mall is The Mall Thapra, and includes a Home Fresh Market. Other local stores are Tesco Lotus Express and Max Valu Tanjai. Seacon Bangkae is next to the new MRT Phasi Charoen Station.

Many restaurants are found at The Mall Thapra. Also recommended is Krua Apsorn on Ratchaphruek Road. Neighborhood cafes include LYNX Specialty Coffee, Sugar Tales Cafe & Bistro, No. 16 Love Cafe, Landmark Boardgame Cafe, Farmnom Cafe and Grandpa Bread Cafe. Excellent Thai and Chinese street food can be found near Talat Phlu Railway Station.

Several bars and nightclubs can be found at Thon Buri Plaza, KARA-TOWN (karaoke), The Lounge (a “coyote” bar) and Poseidon Pub (a dance club). Nearby is Sangkasi Private Club, The Terminal 8, Surabar Party, Seatime (karaoke), CUBE by Moody's Bar and The Most Bar & Bistro. Riverside nightlife is accessible via BTS Saphan Taksin Station.

Local houses of worship are Talat Phlu Baptist Church, and many Thai temples along the Bangkok Yai Canal, including Wat Chantharam, Wat Intharam, Wat Werurachin and Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen.

Neighborhood schools include Kong Lee Chong Sun School, Kanta Thararam School, Thonburi Woratepee Palarak School, Siam Technological College,Saiprasit Business Administration Technological College, the Navy Nursing College, Siam University and Thonburi Vocational College. There are also many schools run by local Thai temples.

Phyathai 3 Hospital and Bangphai Hospital are located at Phet Kasem Road at the new MRT Bang Phai Station. Other nearby medical facilities are at Samitivej Hospital Thonburi, Somdech Phra Pinklao Hospital and Phetkasem 2 Hospital.
